The wooded acres of Hoyt Park have historically served residents as the site of the “local swimming hole.” More than 100 years ago, people sought out the banks of the expansive Menomonee River. In the 1920s and 1930s, the community swam in the earth-bottom swimming hole filled each summer by the local fire department.
In 1937, Hoyt Park was entrusted to Milwaukee County and the Civilian Conservation Corps were engaged to help build the pool, which opened in 1939 and closed in 2003 due to severe structural problems.
Who We Are
Created in 2006, the Friends of Hoyt Park & Pool (FOHPP) is a privately funded 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for all members of the community by developing, maintaining, and operating a community pool at Hoyt Park.
FOHPP has raised $7.8 million dollars to cover: excavation of the old pool; engineering studies; design and building of the pool; extensive renovation of the existing bath house; infrastructure upgrades and a $1,000,000 operations endowment. Fundraising is ongoing to finance the amenities that will make the new TOSA POOL at HOYT PARK a community gathering space we can all enjoy.
